Wrong Parking Fine in Delhi

The total financial hit depends on whether you just got a fine or if your vehicle was physically towed away.

1. Wrong/Improper Parking Fines

For parking in a no-parking zone, on a footpath, or in a manner that obstructs traffic:

• First-time offence: ₹500

• Subsequent (Repeat) offence: ₹1,500

If the Delhi Traffic Police tows your vehicle for causing an obstruction, you must pay the standard fine plus the official towing charges:

You have 60 days to pay your parking fine.

What if the Challan is Wrong?

If you believe you were wrongly fined (e.g., you were parked in a legitimate spot, or the photo shows a different vehicle), do not pay the fine immediately, as paying means you accept guilt. Instead:

1. Grievance Cell: You can lodge a dispute online through the Parivahan portal's grievance section or email your complaint with photographic proof to traffic@delhipolice.gov.in.

2. Virtual Court / Lok Adalat: If unpaid, the challan travels to the Virtual Court. You can contest it online there or wait for a Lok Adalat session where minor traffic fines are often settled or heavily discounted.

If you have received an incorrect traffic or parking e-challan in Delhi (often due to AI cameras misreading a dirty number plate or capturing the wrong vehicle), do not pay it immediately. Paying the fine acts as a legal admission of guilt.

The Delhi Traffic Police allows you to dispute incorrect challans completely online through two official routes.

Route 1: File an Online Grievance (Best Done Within 7 Days)

If the challan is fresh and hasn't been sent to court yet, you can file a direct objection.

Route 2: Contest It via the Virtual Traffic Court

If the grievance window closes, your challan automatically moves to the Delhi Virtual Court (vcourts.gov.in).

• How it works: Search using your vehicle number on the Virtual Court portal.

• Action: When you view the challan, you will see options. Click "I wish to contest the case".

• Result: The system will automatically forward the case to a Digital Traffic Court Magistrate and give you a digital hearing date. You or your legal representative can present your evidence (like GPS logs, office attendance, or photo proof) virtually via a Cisco Webex video call link without physically going to a courthouse.

💡 Email Escalation: Alternatively, you can draft a direct email attaching the wrong challan copy, your RC, and photos of your vehicle, and send it to the official desk at helpdesk-echallan@gov.in.
