Under the updated Motor Vehicles Rules in Uttar Pradesh, the fines for improper or obstructive parking within city areas (applicable to all vehicle types like bikes, cars, etc.) are:

• First-time offense: ₹500

• Subsequent (Repeat) offense: ₹1,500 (Note: In certain high-congestion zones or specific major cities like Lucknow, if your vehicle is towed by municipal authorities, an additional towing charge may apply, pushing the effective penalty up to ₹1,100).

🖥️ How to Check & Pay the Challan Online

You can easily settle your e-challan digitally using the official government portals.

Method 1: Via the Parivahan Portal (Recommended)

1. Visit the official Parivahan e-Challan Website.

2. Click on Check Challan Status / Pay Online.

3. Enter either your Challan Number, Vehicle Number (with the last 5 digits of the Chassis or Engine number), or your Driving License (DL) Number.

4. Enter the captcha code and click Get Detail.

5. Your pending challan(s) will be displayed. Click Pay Now, complete the verification via OTP, and pay using UPI, Net Banking, or Credit/Debit Card.

6. Download and save the digital receipt.

Method 2: Via the UP Police Portal

1. Go to the UP Police Traffic Directorate Portal.

2. Navigate to Services ➡️ Traffic Challan.

3. It will securely redirect you to the Parivahan system to complete your payment.

⚠️ Crucial Rules & Deadlines

UP has significantly tightened its traffic enforcement laws:

• Strict Timelines: For online e-challans, you are required to respond or pay within 3 days of issuance to avoid further legal complications. For physical challans handed over by an officer, the window is 15 days.

• The "5-Strike" Policy: If a driver accumulates 5 or more traffic violations within a single year, their driving license will face a 3-month suspension.

• Consequences of Non-Payment: Ignoring the challan can result in the case being forwarded to a virtual court, vehicle impoundment, or restrictions on renewing your RC/Vehicle Insurance.

💡 Tip: If you believe the challan was wrongly issued (e.g., you were parked legally but the camera misread the situation), you can click on the Grievance/Complaint tab on the Parivahan website within the same window to contest it.
