Purvanchal Expressway Speed Limit Challan
Here is the breakdown of the current speed limits and the resulting fines if you're caught speeding.
1. Speed Limits (As of March 2026)
Speed limits on the expressway are categorized by vehicle type. Note that during winter months (typically Dec 15 – Feb 15), UPEIDA often reduces these limits to 80 km/h for cars due to fog.
| Vehicle Type | Standard Speed Limit |
| Light Motor Vehicles (Cars/Jeeps) | 100 km/h (some stretches allow 120 km/h) |
| Heavy Vehicles (Buses/Trucks) | 80 km/h |
| Two-Wheelers | 80 km/h |
Pro Tip: Keep an eye on the digital overhead displays. If there is rain or fog, the "Variable Message Signs" (VMS) will show a temporarily reduced limit (often 60–80 km/h), and cameras will enforce that lower limit.
2. Challan Amounts
Fines are issued under Section 183 of the Motor Vehicles Act. In Uttar Pradesh, the costs are generally:
-
First Offense (LMV): ₹1,000 – ₹2,000.
-
First Offense (HMV): ₹2,000 – ₹4,000.
-
Repeat Offense: Fines can double (up to ₹4,000–₹10,000), and your license may be suspended for 3 months if you have more than three overspeeding violations.
3. How to Check & Pay Your Challan
If you suspect you’ve been "flashed" by a camera, you can check your status online:
-
Official Portal: Visit https://echallan.parivahan.gov.in/index/accused-challan
-
Details Needed: Enter your Vehicle Number (plus the last 5 digits of your Chassis or Engine number) or the Challan Number from the SMS you received.
-
Payment: You can pay directly via UPI, Credit/Debit card, or Net Banking on the portal.
4. Important Safety Rules
-
Lane Discipline: The right-most lane is for overtaking only. Staying in it while driving slowly can also result in a "Wrong Lane" challan.
-
Stopping: Do not stop on the main carriageway. Use the "Wayside Amenities" (every 50km) for breaks. Stopping on the road (except for emergencies) attracts a fine of ₹2,000.
Note: Since we are currently in late March, the standard 120 km/h limit for cars is active. However, always check the digital overhead boards for temporary rain or construction alerts.
