OverSpeeding fine on Yamuna Expressway
Current Speed Limits & Fines (Winter Period)
From December 15 to February 15, the speed limits are reduced annually to manage low visibility.
| Vehicle Type | Standard Limit | Winter Limit | Fine Amount |
| Light Vehicles (Cars) | 100 km/h | 75 km/h | ₹2,000 |
| Heavy Vehicles (Buses/Trucks) | 80 km/h | 60 km/h | ₹4,000 |
Key Rules to Keep in Mind
-
Automated Enforcement: The expressway is equipped with high-definition ANPR (Automatic Number Plate Recognition) cameras every few kilometers. If your average speed between two points exceeds the limit, a challan is generated automatically.
-
Toll Plaza Notification: You might not have to wait for an SMS. In many cases, the violation details are integrated into the toll system, and you may be handed a physical copy of your challan right at the exit toll plaza.
-
Lane Discipline: Overspeeding isn't the only concern. The right-most lane is strictly for overtaking (cars only). Heavy vehicles found in the fast lane can face additional fines.
-
Two-Wheelers: Note that two-wheelers and three-wheelers are officially banned from the Yamuna Expressway. Entering with one can lead to a fine ranging from ₹1,200 to ₹5,000.
How to Check/Pay Your Fine
If you suspect you've been caught, you can check your status on the official UP Traffic Police e-Challan portal:
-
Visit https://echallan.parivahan.gov.in/index/check-challan-status
-
Enter your Vehicle Number or Challan Number.
-
Pay online via UPI, Credit/Debit card, or Net Banking.
Contesting a fine on the Yamuna Expressway is best done through the official digital grievance system before visiting an office in person. However, if you need to go to an RTO, you should visit the one under whose jurisdiction the violation occurred.
Relevant RTO Locations
The Yamuna Expressway spans 165 km and passes through multiple districts. Depending on where the "speed trap" caught you, you’ll need to contact one of these:
| District | RTO Code | Location / Address |
| Gautam Buddh Nagar (Noida) | UP-16 | Sector 32, Opposite NTPC, Noida |
| Greater Noida | UP-16 | Beta 1 / Sector 32 (Main Office) |
| Mathura | UP-85 | Narsipuram Colony, Mathura |
| Agra | UP-80 | Transport Nagar (TP Nagar), Agra |
How to Contest Online (Recommended First Step)
Before traveling to an office, you can file a dispute online via the Parivahan Grievance System. This is useful if you believe the speed was recorded incorrectly or the vehicle in the photo isn't yours.
-
Visit the Portal: Go to the e-Challan Grievance Page.
-
Upload Proof: You will need to upload evidence (e.g., GPS logs, dashcam footage, or proof that your vehicle was elsewhere).
-
Track Status: Use the "Ticket Status" tab to see the progress. Most grievances are reviewed within 15 days.
